About the Artist

My name is Hope Hoover. I currently live in Central Kentucky with my husband, 2 children, 1 cat, 1 cockatiel, and many, MANY marine tanks. I want to thank you so much for visiting my website!!!

My love of historic pottery started early and was first inspired by film(fantasy and historical movies). It wasn't long before the visceral textures, rich colors and variant utilitarian personalities of historic pottery wooed me to really delve into the artform and start reaching toward more accurate historic reproduction in my work.

While puttering along with my works for personal enjoyment, I was introduced to the Society for Creative Anachronism (the SCA), a medieval and renaissance recreational organization. I joined up with them and, through the camaraderie of many like minded artists, I began to think of my pottery differently. I began to give it away, sell it, and donate it for fund raisers. It meant a lot to me that my reproduction wares of utility were actually in the hands of others that would use them. As I grew as a potter, I was cultivating the idea that a pot is only as good as its purpose. The longer I created, the more I realized that I wanted people to use my creations--live with them. I didn't want my art sitting on a shelf, never to hold a drink, serve juice, store that newly baked bread...bake that pie.

So I create every tumbler, plate, pot, pitcher, jug and jar with the hope that it becomes part of someone's daily life. A thing of beauty AND usefulness.

Thanks so much!
