The cast lists below are growing. Listed are small bios only for characters you need to know about in the immediate future. As new characters arrive in the story, new faces will be added to this cast page. Hugs!
Arllynaitheryn--Priest and healer of the Dyasetheral Order of Elvish Antiquity. Age: 211
Arllyn is a "correct" hermaphrodite and such elves are considered a perfect synthesis
of spirit and flesh. So when one is born, he/she is sent to the temple
to be raised as a bit of an social exemplar. Arllyn is particularly warm natured and has a very developed sense of humor.
His/Her main hobby is academic interest in human culture--and if one word could sum up Arllyn, it would be inquisitive.
So Arllyn finds Gerith very interesting. Gender
identity is non-relevant to elves in Arllyn's state--Arllyn is both male and female and
yet not capable of either bearing or siring offspring. So Arllyn tends to dress to express
his/her gendered mood or to appeal to a particular person.
Calyndhayn dryn Ilsedryn--Prince of the Isles. Age: 460 or so....
"Dryn" is the Royal patronimic in their culture. But the patronimic does not trace the father-line before,
but rather the Kingship (or Queenship) itself. So, "Dryn Ilsedryn" literally means "son of Island's son"
--since that is what the King or Queen is...the symbolic representative of the Island.
Calyn is also Arllynaitheryn's current lover when the story begins. He's not a bad fellow,
though a bit saturnine in nature. He's very jealous of Arllyn's interest in Gerith and it makes him less than
diplomatic with Gerith, whom he sees as belonging to a species that is little more than the
bi-ped version of a Mayfly.
Dorrhynan dryn Ilsedrahn--King of the Sheas. Age: Your guess is as good as mine. Over 1000.
His last name is built with the matronimic "drahn" because the Elven ruler before him was his
mother, not his father. So he is "Dryn Ilsedrahn"..."Son of the Island's Daughter".
As King, Dorrhynan's policies are very egalitarian, but his personal methods are often not
understood, by his two children. He is very wise and a bit humorous. He is much more kindly disposed toward
Gerith than his son is. Though whether he cares for humans as a whole is not known. He is widowed
these several hundred years and could have remarried at any time. But instead has a lover of many centuries
in Bethrinayn, an older hermaphrodite and mentor/friend to Arllyn.
Corvhyna drahn Ilsedryn, princess of the Isles. Age:Almost 600.
Corvhyna, or "Vyn" as her brother calls her, is a very compasionate, and practical personality. She has been lovers
with Arllyn too. But they found themselves more suited to being good friends. She is reaonably sure Arllyn might be in
love with Gerith and is doing her best to mitigate her brother's meddling. SHe doesn't have any strong feelings about
the fact that Gerith is human, but she does want Arllyn to be happy and she is sure her brother is too moody for any
longterm relationship with Arllyn. She wants children, but her current lover and she are not having much luck. Though she is
considering marriage with him anyway.
Caspyn Seyil--Priest and healer of the Dyasetheral Order of Elvish Antiquity. Age: 337
He's a close friend of Arllyn's and also the fraternal twin brother of Aneirin, a Captain of the Ranger Corps.
Caspyn is very, very compassionate. As a healer, he almost empathizes with his patients too much.
He can get caught up in their plights, making it difficult at times for him to objectively work.
This is partly due to the
fact that one of the skills taught Dyasetheran Priests is the ability to empathically
sense where the pain their patients are experiencing lies, and Caspyn is very proficient at this. It makes his diagnosistic skills particularly effective but can be
stressful for him as well.
Aneirin Seyil--Captain of the Mainland Rangers. Age:337
Twin brother of the Dyasetheran Priest, Caspyn...Aneirin is
not exactly the opposite of his brother, but his military career has certainly led him to be more reserved. He is one of 7 Captains (One Captain for each island in the Sheas) that each oversee 20 corps or Rangers.
He is a bit of a cynic about human kind, having served earlier in his career with an elven Naval ship that saw its fair share of pirates.
Prior to Gerith, Pirates were his only exposure to humanity. Of course, Aneirin is a practical sort and it doesn't take long for him to accept that Gerith is
anything but a pirate. He and Gerith eventually come to a grudging mutual respect, if not an actual friendship.
Tallan--A lieutenant of the Rangers Age: 150
Tallan is Aneirin's second cousin and has been under his wing since coming to serve as a Ranger
lieutenant. Its a rank he came to early. But then he's a quick study and a bold, earnest character...
And Aneirin still guides him in his new position quite a bit. To many elves, the humans are a bit legend.
But as much as many elves fear them--Tallan has heard Arllyn carry on about them often enough to be optimistically curious.
He very quickly comes to like and admire Gerith, and pretty much disregards his cousin's misgivings from the onset.
Faehl--A lieutenant of the Rangers Age:Just over 400
A veteran Ranger
lieutenant, Faehl (pronounced Fa-ahl)
turned down a promotion to Captain long ago. He prefers the simple
life of leading his corps in their duties to keep the mainland secure. He lacks a certain degree of
military polish or temperament and gets very easily annoyed with bureaucracy.
He is very quiet natured with a good, but slightly sardonic sense of humor.
Sir Gerith ap Brystan-- Age:21
Gerith is a young knight from Dethaine,
a Central Western country on the main continent. He was sent with the signet
ring of the Prince of Dethaine. But the head injury suffered in the shipwreck has him
unsure at all why he has it or what it means. And he finds Arllyn a very compelling distraction. His
attraction for Arllyn is an issue of instant chemistry and he has full intention of consumating that attraction
until he is informed of Arllyn's unique
gender situation. Gerith is then rather irrationally torn between irritation with
Arllyn--who he can hardly blame for being born odd--and irritation with his own confused and rather determined libido.
He wants to return to the mainland to find out what he was meant to be doing, as soon as he can.
